  • 48 inch piece of 3/4 popular dowel(Secondary support)
  • 10 X 30 plastic(secondary)
  • 45 inch piece of 1 inch steel tube(mirror cell bracket)
  • 45 inch piece of 1 inch flat steel(mirror cell bracket)
  • 8 - 1 inch X 30 inch long(we are using a 4.5F mirror) aluminum tubes(Used the one from a old canopy cover)
  • 4 Tee nuts
  • 48 inch piece of 1 X 1 inch angle aluminum
  • 48 inch piece of 2 X 2 inch angle aluminum
  • 18 1 1/2 10X24 hex screws
  • 18 lock washers
  • Misc nuts, screws and bolts

Dimensions(info from Guy Walton):

  • Secondary: O.D. 14 3/8 inches, I.D. 11 5/8 inches
We used 1/2 birch to make the secondary rings, The cage is 7.5 inches high, we used (6) 3/4 poplar dowels.
We also used some flexible plastic(thick folder type) to line the secondary Secondary Cage Picture.
  • Mirror Cell: We used 1 inch square tubing and 1 inch flat steel to make the mirror cell assy.(NOTE: Drill holes first before you weld it)
  • Mirror Box: Top Piece is 14X14X13 inches high with 17 inch Rockers Mirror Box Picture
  • Rocker Box: Front piece is 15 3/4 inches wide
Sides: 14 1/2 inches wide by 10 inches high. Front and rear pieces are butt jointed to bottom piece.
Front Piece is 15 3/4 inch wide by 8 inches high. made from 1/2 inch birch plywood
Back piece is 1 3/4 inch by 15 3/4 inch from 1/2 birch plywood.

First we started with the secondary assy.
We layout the circle then rough cut with a jigsaw. We then used a circle jig that Jim made to grind the secondary circle to the circle line.
Next we rough cut the inside of the secondary circle.
Next we layed both circles on top of each other to make sure they where the same
used a spindle sander to sand inside circle to line.
Next we set up a jig to cut the 6 dowels, then we countersank the secondary rings to accept the dowels(for Support and strength) then we drilled a pilot hole to accept the screws.

Next we cut a piece of 1/2 inch birch to mount the focuser, we set it in place to accept the secondary mirror and mirror bracket. Now set the secondary cage aside

Next we started with the mirror box
