Long Winter....
It’s been a long snowy and cold winter just wondering if it will get over soon! We are planning to have a meeting in March to discuss some new issues, outreach program and public exhibits. As soon as we get confirmation on the room we will post the meeting date.
Let’s see, what have I done this winter besides taking my courses, well eye surgery for one and that went well. I still have some floating junk hopefully that will go away soon (before we start observing). I am completely rethinking my astrophotography set up. I want to remote control the scope, camera from the astro lodge.

First I had the “coffee grinder” mount taken apart, cleaned, relube and gears adjusted, JJ took it completely apart and found some issues with the gears. He had it working in tip top shape, it still make noise but not as much. Remote focus, Jim built an adaptor for my ST120 so I could remotely focus the scope, it works really nice.

Next Jim finished up my permanent pier, just needs some painting. I think an array of flames from the bottom up will work. The next step was rather difficult; JJ and I made a trade on some equipment that worked out nice for both of us. I took JJ’s old laptop and modified it to accept remote desktop control, since the option was not available for that O/S. That worked out nice I can access the Laptop and software from anywhere. I tried to use the TightVNC but it was too slow, nothing like a quick desk top remote to make things work. This weekend hopefully, I will put everything together set it up and try everything to see if there are any bugs to work out.

The 16 inch scope will get painted once it warms up, the next project is to bring the mount to my place and work on it. Then we will start putting it back together to check out the gears.

If you have any issues with our equipment, now is the time to work on it and get it fixed before the viewing session start.

More later
Thanks

Fiesta!
Fiesta at the Nino House for all the members that helped out with building or donated money or items for the Astro Lodge. Hard worked has paid off since we started the building about a year and half ago, we've had over 1,000 kids and adults visit Hodgson's Observatory for information about astromony, hands on project and the layout of the solar system planets plus other items of interest.

Our Astro Lodge out-research program is funded by solely by Dick and Nancy at Hodgson Observatory, club members and other individuals that have donated several items.

Thanks to everybody that help in this process, the Astro Lodge should be complete next year when the ceililng drywall is installed and insulated.
